Topsham and the upper Exe

The paddle from Exmouth up to Topsham is the classic Exe estuary tour: flat water, birds everywhere, Lympstone's harbour on the way, and Topsham's quay and pubs at the top. With the tide behind you it is a relaxed couple of hours each way.

Timing is everything on the estuary. Ride the flood tide up and the ebb back, and give yourself a bail-out plan: the Exmouth to Exeter train stops at Lympstone and Topsham. Episode five of Edge Exe-plores shows the route.
