Budleigh Salterton

Pebble beach and the mouth of the Otter, ten minutes east.

Budleigh is the next town east along the coast, with a long pebble beach facing straight down the Channel. When a southerly swell arrives it is one of the closest surf options to Exmouth, and on calm days it is a quiet place for a swim or a paddle out to the mouth of the River Otter.

The beach is steep and the shore break can dump, so go with a plan for getting in and out. The Otter estuary is a nature reserve, so keep to the river mouth.
