Pineapple Island is a small UK brand that works directly with family workshops in Bali and Java. Every bracelet, anklet and choker is made by hand from seed beads, cowrie shells, mother of pearl and waterproof stainless steel, and the same makers have been producing for them for years.

It is the one thing in the shop that sells itself. The stand by the till is where everyone ends up after a lesson or a session, and the pieces are built to stay on through salt water, sand and showers. Friendship bracelets are the big one: cheap enough to buy a handful, tough enough to still be on your wrist next summer.
